Me: You know what I love about George Washington Carver?
(pause for nonsense)
Me: No, really, you know what I love about George Washington Carver? That he was George Washington Carver! Like... the whole thing. He was born in the shadow of slavery, a poor and disadvantaged black man, and he decided to focus ALL HIS ENERGY on PEANUTS and their possibilities for curing the world's ills.
Lea: AND HE WAS RIGHT!
Me: I know! I know! Peanut butter!
Lea: And is there slavery anymore? NO.

This is just a sign to me that I should not have skipped this weekend, as I actually genuinely love George Washington Carver so much that I planned vacations around staying in a hotel named for him. No kidding, I am that lame amazing. ;-)

Actually he was an agricultural scientist who focused not only peanuts but other nuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans to make products as diverse as fuel, adhesives, and food products. If scientists nowadays did what he did, the planet would have no problem "going green".

Um, I'm an American/African-American history teacher. Heh.
