This is my MY SADISTIC FUCKING ROOMMATE'S contribution to the whole Little Mermaid AU thing.

Let's fast forward a bit, shall we?


Patrick manages a kiss the first night.

It's not hard. He lets the prince walk him to his room, stands nervously at the doorway, and tilts his head up just a bit, enough for Mikey to bend down and plant a soft kiss on his lips.

It doesn't help. Patrick tries to say something right then, "good night," or "thank god," or just laugh, but nothing comes out. Mikey must notice his face falling because he just smiles gently and squeezes Patrick's hand in his before bidding him good night.

He lies in bed that night, restless and unable to go to sleep. It should have worked. Mikey's kiss should have brought back his voice, and Patrick wracks his brains trying to figure out what went wrong, if there was some loophole in the spell.

It's only as his eyes are closed and he's finally managed to doze off a bit that the Witch's words drift back to him: "True love's first kiss..."

He wakes up the next morning to a soft knock on his door. He tries to call out, and remembers he can't actually speak. His face must show his disappointment, because when Mikey steps inside, he takes one look at Patrick, and rushes over to the bed, smiling brightly.

"I'm going to show you around town today," he says.

Patrick grins. Mikey's smile is beautiful, and Patrick feels his chest lighten. Maybe this will work, he thinks. Maybe he'll actually fall in love.

They have an amazing time that day. Mikey introduces him to all his friends - and there are a lot - all of who seem curious about Patrick's strange disability, but all of who are also nice and well-mannered.

They end up spending the evening at Mikey's friend Ray's house. He's a musician, and he'd been surprised but happy when Patrick had expressed an interest in Ray's guitar. He'd been a little suspicious at first, but had finally relented and even offered to teach Patrick to play when he saw with what reverence and awe Patrick handled the instrument.

It is similar to his own, under the sea, and he was quickly getting the hang of it. Mikey leaves them alone in the music room after a while, going off to socialize with some of his other friends for a while.

"You're good for him," Ray says after Mikey walks out. "I don't think I've ever seen him smile this much."

Patrick feels his face heat up, and tries not to let it show as he bent over the guitar and focused on placing his fingers correctly on the strings.



The next morning, Patrick wakes up to terrible breath and drool. He tries to say something before he remembers, and opens his eyes. Looming over him is a huge, resigned-looking bulldog.

"Hemmy? Where did you go, buddy?" calls a voice from the hallway. With a loud crash, the door leaps open and into the wall. Patrick flinches. "Hey, whoa, sorry," says the man who is standing in his doorway. "My dog..."

Patrick smiles sleepily and pats the dog's head, nodding. The man smiles tentatively.

"Hey," he repeats. "I'm Pete."

In conclusion, kids, don't leave your lj account logged-in on your roommate's computer if your roommate a) is a troll, and b) knows who you ship. :(
