OKAY. So the last couple of days have been confusing, in terms of viral marketing, but here's basically what happened (with deepest of thanks to my ♥Wily Girl Detectives♥).
Part 1
First, AP.net posted a link that claimed to be to CitizensForOurBetterment.com, and the text for the link did read that - but the link was actually to CitizensFourOurBetterment.com. This site was a near-mirror of the original CFOB, but it linked directly to RunRightBackToTheStart.com, which claimed to be a "maze". If you spent enough time clicking around inside this website, through links and options and interesting art and lyrics, you ended up at YouAreMySunshineAlbum.com, with a picture and a date - October 14th.
HOWEVER. If you googled the lyrics that were on Run Right Back to the Start, you found that they were from a band called Copeland. I'm not going to get into the details of Copeland's viral marketing, but it's really complicated and REALLY fucking cool. I'm kind of impressed and I kiiind of want to buy their shit.
So then the issue became trying to figure out whether Copeland and FOB were connected - was CFOB supposed to stand for Copeland Fall Out Boy? Were they being signed to Decaydance? Was there a joint tour coming up? Pete posted on MeeLikey and made it clear that he knew about C4OB, but not whether the connection was intentional on his part. An article came out on MTV.com that may be the final word (although it could also be a red herring).
WHEW. OKAY. Meanwhile on the REAL CFOB:
Yesterday the "media" link, which had been forbidden, was opened and now links to a picture of someone (Gabe?) in a Midtown shirt, with a cryptic message about it being the "end" underneath. This links through to let you actually buy a Midtown shirt. The post and number also updated, as it's been doing every night at midnight. It still mentions November 4th. The name of the poster has, at various times, been "Anton Djamoos" (the AP.net employee), Joe Biden, and Kill Time Web Cat, which unscrambles to William Beckett. The word "cat" now links to Beckett's blog, although it didn't originally.
Also yesterday, a link was posted on AP.net to a picture of a girl standing in front of the Scientology propaganda museum about psychiatry, covering her face, holding a bunch of pamphlets from CFOB.
Pete updated his blogspot several times, you can check
icecreamhdaches for the full updates. I'm really wondering about this in particular:
ALSO, he's been stupidly fucking emo lately. MAN UP, PETE WENTZ. YOU HAVE A HOT WIFE. YOU HAVE A BABY. YOU HAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO FOLLOW YOUR DAMN ANTICS. I AM TIRED OF WORRYING ABOUT YOU. GO TO BED.
Ummmmm I don't know. What am I forgetting? Help me out, flist! I will edit this post. I just want it all in one damn place!
ETA: Okay, and I just remembered: for a while there was a link on CFOB to the Wikipedia page for folie a deux, which is presumably a reference to the C4OB shenanigans.
And there was a post up on...somewhere, Jesus, I don't remember, that mentioned a right wing blogger? Or something? I HAVEN'T HAD MUCH SLEEP. (Buzznet, and the site mentioned was frontpagemag.com, which had an ad for CFOB.)
ETA2: Now there's a link up on Beckett's blog, here, to this site: http://runrightbacktotheart.com/ which links right back to CFOB.
The "data" link is working, and leads to a name/address input field.
ALSO, AND HILARIOUSLY: the words "Exposes! Scandals!" on the CFOB site now link to that look-alike picture that went the rounds ages ago of "Ryan and Brendon" making out. That makes Cobra, TAI, and Panic. (And Copeland.) Thanks, everybody! ♥
ETA3: Midtown sent out a MySpace bulletin with the title of the media page on CFOB. And there have been hints about tomorrow's episode of FNMTV; a girl on FBRT briefly posted that she had been at the taping and heard a 30 second clip of a new song, but quickly deleted.

there is a code of words when inputed in the right order that will make sense:
Control Feral Obsessed Blackout,
sadly that is not it. alone.

I've been struggling to read all the viral marketing mess through my phone and during the 45 minutes I'm home from school before I fall asleep ...and nothing was making sense. This post clears it all for me. THANK YOUUUU. ♥ ♥ ♥
I think Pete's main plan is not marketing or puzzles or new albums. He just wants to drive us insane.

there is a great horowitz article at frontpagemag.com. worth the read.
That's the right-wing website. There's been an ad for CFOB up there for the last day or two.

I was at the Hush Sound/Cab show tonight and I asked Cash if he'd give me any hints about the CFOB thing. He said he didn't know anything about it (LIES!!), but he did flash the website on the back of his bass again. At least I got a fist bump out of it ♥

Be happy, Pete. Or I'll set fire to your lawn. >:(

Weirder and weirder...
Although at the moment that site just links back to CFOB and nowhere else.

I put my name and address in to see what it would do and you just get a message saying "Thanks"

I'm at the point of not really believing anything Pete says - it's like, he's been so emo, it feels a little disingenuous. Of course it could be real (and I don't really like doubting him), but it could also be part of the game.
GO TEAM SLEUTHING. Can we just keep using this post as home base? Having everything in one place seems like a really good idea to me. <3

Seriously, I am so baffled. But any information is...information!

I completely agree. Are you really unhappy, Pete? Really? Or is this all tied into the theme of breaking up/starting over/going back to the beginning/rebooting?
\o/ Of course! I'll might make another one if there's too much to add on here, but I'm going to tag and link them all.

Well, that's the thing, I mean, they've been so emphatic about "Oh, we're just working away, these things take so much time, SIGH," and then there was the blog post on the official FOB website where he made a really big point of saying that it was THE ONLY LEGIT SOURCE FOR FOB NEWS, OMG. It's just all a little much, really, and so I am suspicious. But of course, I also really want him to be happy, so it could all be wishful thinking. Oh dear.

Or maybe they're making a really big porno. :DDD

And thanks for the summaries. I am sort of lacking in the time to devote to this, and much appreciate the handy info!

Honestly, I think part of the reason Pete's been emo all over his blog is to get everyone's attention. AND IT'S WORKING, PETE, YOU BASTARD.

The "posted by" on CFOB says Far Away Ranch Echo. This is an anagram of Carah Faye Charnow who, according to wiki, used to be in Shiny Toy Guns.
"Action" on CFOB leads to her myspace page. This is private, hardly any info on there.
Interestingly, her wiki page was edited a bunch of times by "Jestertrent" on 20 Aug and before that didn't seem to have much on it.
There was an ad for the Environmental Defense Fund on her myspace which I thought might be connected but it's now been replaced by another ad so guess it's not.
ERK!

Haha, did it really say Joe Biden? He's the current frontrunner for Obama's VP. Interesting.

Pete posted a new blog entry early this morning (EARLY):
while you plan a puzzle it can be harder to put together when the pieces keep changing on their own. they all fit together. they all make sense in some way. even if they dont.
what if its a decoy to distract us from something fifty times bigger?
come on.
answers by monday we or some rookie leaves their gun and badge on the desk forever.
