My non-fandom bff, of all people, told me to update my LJ more last night, so here I am complying. The last class I have on Tuesdays and Thursday is biology and there is just no possible way that after being in two heavy discussion classes I'm going to pay actual attention once I get to the powerpoint lecture with notes posted online. YEAH, RIGHT.

School continues to go really fucking well. I mean, cross your fingers, knock on wood, but it's fourth week and smooth sailing so far.

My teacher just said getting tested for prostate cancer is "trendy" right now. (??)

Blah, the problem is that I just have nothing to talk about these days. I have been through, in quick succession, in the past few weeks:

• A serious Fast and the Furious phase, which has resulted in my intense devotion to Vin Diesel as a human being. Please don't ask me how many pictures of him I have saved on my computer, I might cry.


• A Life on Mars episode watching phase. Continuing my long tradition of loving characters who are nothing like me, I want to marry Gene motherfucking Hunt on the astral plane. I want to follow him around and watch him punch people for always.


• A Life on Mars fic phase. That's an interesting fandom! They have their own car-themed rating system! They beat up Sam Tyler A LOT. I really wish H/C was my kink, because ka-ching.


• A continuing Merlin fic phase. The great thing about Merlin fandom is that it requires absolutely no mental acrobatics as a longterm slash fan. It plugs right into the tradition, no jumps, no shocks. I honestly don't mean this as an insult: it is the box-mix-brownies of fandoms, always there when you want it and always filling in the way you expect.


• This isn't a phase, but I continue to keep up religiously with HIMYM and 30 Rock, which I genuinely consider the best two shows on television.

Talk to me about one of these things or something from your own current lists, flist! I promise to actually reply to comments for once and not be an unmitigated scrub. Plus I'm going to go back and reply to some old comments so, uh, don't pass out from shock. /o\

I am in a WB/UPN/CW circa two years ago phase. By which I mean I am reading Dawson's Creek, Veronica Mars, and GILMORE GIRLS. Why am I seventeen? IDK.

Dude, that's so true about Merlin. I have been reading a lot of Merlin on and off, probably for that reason. Other recent phases: some Smallville which turned into some DCU which is problematic because I know who like 3 of the characters are and a mostly-successful attempt to read all the Bujold fic ever (not nearly enough).

I am watching way more TV than I ever have, despite...not actually owning a TV, or even knowing anybody nearby who owns a TV. The magic of the internet! But I am not feeling the writing thing at present and am thus super-boring.

Also I am engaged in an EPIC BATTLE OF WILLS with my coworker, mostly revolving around the fact that he keeps trying to guilt me into being nice to him, and I am not having any of it. Sorry, no, I won't drive an hour and a half out of my way so that you can go to the twin cities and get laid! Especially when you don't actually ask, you just hint repeatedly!

True story: the only thing that is keeping me from throwing this dude in the lake is the fact that next year, he's going to be doing my job, and he's going to do a terrible job, and I really want to point and laugh from a safe distance.

...also I think the lake is still mostly frozen, so there's that.

ALSO ALSO I WISH I WERE IN CHICAGO. Which maybe I will be come...the first of June, ish? so if you will also be there (and if this does in fact come to pass) we should totally hang out.

How I Met Your Mother! The single problem I currently have with this show is I keep getting excited about it being Monday night and then ... there is no new episode. This has happened to me twice in the last month. :(

I had never seen, "The Fast and The Furious" until this morning. I only saw the final scene in Hawaii before seeing the fourth movie in the theater. I fangirled so hard.

I'd definitely forgotten how much I liked Vin. He's a smart guy and I wish that he'd get more serious roles, because he IS a good actor. He's more than that tough, action guy. He's also stupid hot and his voice makes things happen to my body.

I too am in a heavy duty TF&TF phase - so much so that I clearly need to make it into an acronym. We totally had a marathon of the movies on Sunday, it was excellent. HANNAH DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN SINCE I READ FIC? A LONG ASS TIME.

As for watching, I'm keeping up with CM, 30 Rock and ANTM, plus trying out Southland and Castle. Southland is sometimes boring in it's edginess, but at least it isn't quite so stupid plot-wise as Castle. Except Nathan Fillion's character on Castle is excellent, as is his family. I would watch their show all the time.

IDK, I'm reading a scary amount of political blogs and watching lots of random seminars on fora.tv, @googletalks, and Harvard's Berkman Center. I AM KIND OF A WONK APPARENTLY?

I've been reading Merlin fic too in order to avoid my BBB and like, I'm liking a lot of it but I am annoyed at the style some times. Like I'm sort of spoiled for the way bandom sort of always talks like how people really speak. And how they talk like GUYS (and forgive me for not finding a better way to state this). Also I read a fic that was dub-con and they didn't warn for it. Like the actual summary was something like "Arthur makes Merlin have sex with him and Merlin doesn't want to, except he secretly does" and it was actually about that. Like it was actually Arthur abusing his power and Merlin saying he hated it and UGH, why you do this, new fandom?

OH! And I've been listening to a lot of Kanye lately. Like I decided shortly after it dropped that I didn't like 808s and Heartbreaks but I've been listening to a lot more lately and it's rly good now that I'm getting a chance.
