On the way home, we listened to a book on tape that must have been written in the seventies or something, and oh my lord the SEXISM! It was pretty crazy rampant. The "villain" was this "frigid, virginal" social worker with "ice-blonde hair" whom we were supposed to both pity, for her sorrowful naiveté about the Real World, and despise, for her inability to cook and/or respond properly to our (smarmy, disguisting) hero's advances. UGH. I think my favorite part was when "Daddy" (the Virgin's father) wondered with Our Hero whether the reason women are incapable of cooking on a charcoal grill was A) their innate inability to keep from meddling with a good thing or B) a vast conspiracy to "make men do their cooking for them". AAAAAAARGH *WASHES OUT BRAIN*

The most ridiculous thing about the whole experience was that in between listening to this tape, I was reading bits of Ardhanarishvara part 13 which I had printed out for the car ride. So it was like gender politics table tennis: a bit of fascinating exploration of sexual identity, a bit of misogynist tough guy police drama.

And I was thinking about femmeslash, after talking to joandarck, as in I should write some? But I can't think of any pairings off the top of my head that interest me. Hmmm. *taps fingers thoughtfully*
