Warning: this post is a brain dump of everything fannish I have been thinking in the last two weeks. There may not be segues. Proceed at thy own risk.
The
inuvikdotcom fics that have been posted so far are utterly, mindblowingly awesome. I am just endlessly proud that I was part of something that inspired this kind of response. We extended the deadline, of course, because we are EASY.
Okay, and now a serious announcement: Heroes. This show BLOWS MY MIND with how good it is every single time I watch it. It is really amazingly good. I was very much not expecting to like it, for some reason, and I have rarely been so spectacularly and happily wrong. See, I'm used to loving shows that have flaws – big, raggedy flaws of storytelling and characterization and continuity and plot and theme. And I love them anyway! I do! *blows SGA kisses* But I think that's why it's such a stunning experience for me to suddenly be watching a show that I DON'T have issues with writing-wise. I just, I keep noticing things that make me unfuckingbelievably happy. This show is GORGEOUS, visually, and there's very much a character for everyone to love, and the story is utterly compelling, and there are THEMES and just. HIRO MOHINDER CLAIRE CLAIRE HIRO.
I have something vaguely intelligent to say, too, about the plot, and the way the plot actually advances with every episode, but I am way too sleepy to write it out right now, and I think I might use a revolting amount of italics if I tried. I think what I mostly want to get across is: lots of shows are character-driven, and lots of shows are plot-driven, but very few shows actually succeed with BOTH character AND plot. This one? Does.
Here is something else I have to say: STARBUCK. My background right now is this image, repeated several times:
I want to lick her.
I offer my sincerest thanks to
brooklinegirl for making me aware of this picture's existence. Because, seriously. Wow. WOW.
Also, Torchwood! Bisexual aliens!! I of course take issue with the whole Date Rape Scene of Charming Comedy. THAT SAID: I am madly in love with this show. Captain Jack Harkness. I love, I adore what they're doing with gender and sexuality. I almost can't believe they're getting away with it, actually. It is the slashiest show I have ever seen, in terms of attitude. Canon MPREG! Casual bisexuality! "You humans, with your categories!" This is utterly fucking revolutionary outside of slash fandom. I think maybe I didn't notice it at first, because I'm so used to that kind of fluid fun gender/sexuality play, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that this is NOT normal. This is a slashy sensibility in the MAINSTREAM. And it's pretty mainstream, too – I think it set records for audience share in the UK. This is a pretty huge deal, you guys! This means something!
It occurs to me that I have not even mentioned Fangirl Fridays on this journal yet! Which is sad, because they are INCREDIBLY fun and awesome.
etben,
shoemaster,
custardpringle, and I have all gotten together several times to watch Sci Fi Friday and chat, and it is seriously the best time ever. There are squeals and inappropriate touching and lots and lots of fannish chatter. It is WONDERFUL. ♥
How are you?

Um. That's the extent of my thinking power at the moment.

also, I love how Anders in the background (is that Anders?) is totally smug. He is thinking, "LOOK WHAT I JUST SCORED. Hell fucking yes."
(no subject)
Can't tell if that's Anders or not, but god I have such Anders love. Shouldn't, as he's not a very interesting character, but...but....he's Michael Trucco! *wibbles*
*stares some more*
Maybe it's time to change my background....

(*weeps softly at mention of SGA* I miss my show.)
There was probably more, but that picture done stole all my coherence. Dayum.

It is so true. I should not have put that picture in the middle of a post that contained, like, actual thoughts. *sympathetic*

And, oh, Heroes, yay, I am glad to hear it continues to be good - we watched the first episode at Chris' the other day and liked it a bunch. (HIRO!!)
And, uh, we're not going to talk about InuvikDotCom right now *shifty eyes* but you guys did so well with that challenge and I can't wait to read everyone's fic, and oh, so jealous about Fangirl Fridays, they sound WONDERFUL. I am TOTALLY meeting you people next time I end up in Chicago, yes? *squishes you*
(no subject)
You need to watch more Heroes! It just gets better! *aggressively pushes pamphlets at you*
Hee! If it helps, I've, uh, barely started mine. I am SO glad it seems to be going well, and thank you so much for being enthusiastic and participating and YAYS.
You are ABSOLUTELY meeting us next time you are in Chicago! This is not optional! *squishes back*

I am still waiting for the bisexual character(s?) to be actively bisexual, though. So far we've had a straight girl kissing a possessed straight girl, and a straight guy under the influence of alien technology kissing a straight guy.
(no subject)
On the other hand: yes, I would definitely like to see some non-alien-influenced girlkissing and/or boykissing. Fair point.

assuming I feel like walking for an hour or soonce I figure out the buses.Everyone I know is talking about Torchwood, and I still have no idea what it is. Other than gay, apparently.
(no subject)
Torchwood is a spinoff of Doctor Who, which is itself a revival of the OLD Doctor Who. It's very shiny and pretty, and it's about BISEXUAL ALIENS. \o/

*cries quietly about
inuvikdotcom fic*I mean, *fangirls you madly for it and also for extending the deadline*(no subject)
P.S.

And, oh, you just totally convinced me to try Heroes. ::goes to dl::
