Soooo I've been watching a lot of Merlin. The first ten episodes, I saw while getting increasingly drunk with

loveyouallwrong and various Chicagoans. Merlot and Sprite, baby! Pete Wentz's best idea since making Patrick Stump sing! This definitely affected my appreciation, as I went from OH MY GOD THE VOICEOVER AT THE BEGINNING EMBARRASSMENT SQUIIICK to "Lea, this show is ACTUALLY good, right? It's like. REALLY good."

(Lea: "No.")

But it's not just the alcohol, okay? I love this freaking show. It is SO BAD and it feels SO GOOD. Ugh amazing amazing badfic being filmed.

Still, every so often some tiny straw breaks my back and I freak out at how inconsistent it is (OH MY ACTUAL GOD, WHY ARE THEY DOING MAGIC IN OLD ENGLISH WHEN ARTHUR SPENDS HIS LIFE FIGHTING THE SAXONS) (THAT IS NOT WHAT MEDIEVAL SCULPTURES OF DOGS LOOK LIKE) (WHY ARE THE WALLS SO SMOOTH). I can accept the big stuff, the Victorian castle, whatever! And yet then something hits me the wrong way and BANG.

I wasn't expecting Merlin and Arthur to be as attractive in motion as they are, because they're both kind of odd-looking in still shots. But they really ARE hot shit. (And I know it's very very early in the fandom to be crossing this line, but... have you watched the cast video diary? Yeah. YEAH. I'D READ IT.) Gwen and Morgana are also even gayer than I thought they would be, and I'd been warned that they're pretty gay. I love all four of them and their relationships with each other more than I expected.

Anyway, here are some things I would like Merlin fandom to get right on, thanks:

- fic where Morgana and Arthur create a SECRET CLUB for people who want to seduce their super hot servants. They hang a sign on the door! NOBULZ ONLEE, NO SURVANTZ ALLOWED

- fic where Arthur notices Merlin's hickey and frrrreaks out. Basically I am envisioning a situation where Arthur : people who give Merlin hickeys :: Uthur : magic.

- FIC WHERE MERLIN IS PREGNANT

- FIC WHERE ARTHUR IS PREGNANT (!!!!!)

- FIC WHERE MERLIN IS SICK AND ARTHUR NURSES HIM

- sex ~~pollen~~ spells wtf why are there not 1000 fics of this already

- All of the Gwen/Morgana.

- All of the Gwen/Morgana, Merlin/Arthur parallelism fic where Gwen and Merlin are awkward and Arthur and Morgana are grumpy and jealous.

- an Arthur vid to Womanizer. Think about it. Merlin is Britney.

- Lea and I had another great vid idea but I forget it! Essentially, what I want is a lot of Lord King Bad Vids. Because this is, if ever such a thing has been, a Lord King Bad Show.

Um, who else has fallen for this? Half of my flist, if I'm not mistaken? Talk to me! What do YOU want that no one has yet adequately provided?

Jealous Arthur is amazing.

I want Gwen/Morgana with Morgana getting more and more ~magical (maybe in a lulzy badficcy way because lol Merlin is not quality) and Gwen following her even when the magic takes a darker turn. And Merlin becoming even more vaugely sociopathic in his defense of Arthur, maybe with the inclusion of his knowledge of an alternate reality where he's an old man who guides babby Arthur to the throne. And loads of Gwen/Arthur.

Jealous Arthur is my faaaavorite kind of Arthur. He's such a little jerk when he's mad, and he never talks about his feelings, and I LOVE IT.

I just want Gwen in a big starring role. She's so amazing, Imp! She's SO MUCH MORE EMOTIONALLY COMPETENT THAN ANYONE ELSE. I loooove heeer.

FWIW (re the historical "accuracy") the creators have stated in interviews and commentary tracks that they've very deliberately creating a fairy tale universe that borrows liberally from anywhere within the range of potential Arthurian legend settings (which I think they've pegged as anywhere from 6th to 14th centuries). So... yeah they're all over the place, but it is a deliberate pastiche and not just a series of fuck ups.

And yeah, Arthur and Merlin aren't best served by still shots, but they get WAY hotter both in action, and as the cinematographers seem to learn how best to light them.

Ohhh, I didn't know that! That's - well, I don't know, I still have trouble with the Old English = language of magic thing, and the incredibly straight machine-sewed seams, but that's reassuring, at least. It still galls me a little, though, even if I know they're doing it on purpose, which isn't very fair of me.

They are GORGEOUS! I wasn't expecting them to be so attractive. Talk about unphotogenic.

Now that I've read the other comments on the entry, let me tell you that that story, by the way, has jealous Arthur in it. It's a whole thing!

Also, I guess probably you've also seen the other diaries (in three parts on YouTube) that include the rest of the cast? Bradley James and Colin Morgan feature really prominently in those too, and Angel don't-know-her-last-name (Gwen) is in it and she is super fly, and also there are occasional glimpses of Anthony Head e.g. in a car on a rollercoaster at the supermarket, being badass.

I have a ridiculous amount of love for this show. At the start I used to wince at all the incorrect stuff, but then I just started concentrating on the pretty and gay. It worked pretty well. I live in hope of a musical episode.
