Oh my God, I think my heart will burst from love. BRENDON URIE. He. You guys. THE TATTOO. I have been thinking about The Tattoo lately, because – I don't know, I feel like people are judging it on different criteria than I want to judge it on? I mean, people were complaining about the execution, and like, the artwork, and that just seems kind of wrong-headed to me. Because the really important thing here, I would think, is what it says about Brendon, not how it looks: we're writing this kid as a character, not putting him in a frame and hanging him on the wall. So, I don't know, I was kind of mulling it over. And then just now,

OMG. OMFG. I LOVE HIM AND I LOVE IT. And here's why, essentially reposted from my comment in her journal: ALL I needed to love this tattoo was some evidence that Brendon thinks it's awesome. Seriously, SERIOUSLY: talented Mormon kid rebels against his family and church so he can pursue his passion for music, and once he's a super-successful musician (with a band of adorable dorks who he loves), decides to get a tattoo of PIANO KEYS coming out from under his SKIN, because he LOVES MUSIC, it is PART OF HIM, and he will NEVER REGRET IT, it is permanent, it is forever, it is who he is. I don't even want that, so much as think that it's CANON. It definitely HAPPENED.

But - honestly? If we're being totally honest? I kind of like his better than most of theirs, because of how much meaning there is behind it. Whereas Frank and Pete, MUCH THOUGH I LOVE THEM, do seem to kind of get inked for the sake of getting inked. I'm sorry! (Oh my Goddd, I wish Gerard wasn't afraid of needles, because can you imagine the awesomesauce combination of meaningfulness and visual artistry that his tattoos would be? WOW.)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love Frankie's tattoos on him! But Brendon's is a lot more like the ones I want to get, which might be why I appreciate it more. He took one of the, like, top five most important things about him, and distilled that thought into something he can mark on his arm. I love that. <3

And that makes sense. I think I fall more into the Frank school of tattoo thought, (as opposed to the Pete school, 'I was bored') where each tattoo I want to get means a lot to me right now, but it doesn't DEFINE me, by itself. But my ink all together is eventually going to describe me, as a person.

Also, I have a great affection for his knuckles, because I lust after my own knuckle tats something fierce. One. Day.

Hee, yes, that is actually pretty accurate, I am thinking! The three types of tattoo-getter: "I was bored (Pete)," "this means something (Frank)," and "this means EVERYTHING (Brendon)." Personally I tend toward the third type, possibly because I overthink everything – but I can definitely understand the second kind, and appreciate it. (And of course, there's also the pure, body-as-art, meaning-free tattoo, which I love a lot, but which is very far from my own personality.)

*nodnod* I tend to find that my personality is a little too scattered for me to be able to pull off 'this means EVERYTHING' tattoos. Because other than music, there isn't anything that means EVERYTHING to me that can adequately be described and put down on paper.

That, and I really, really like getting ink. So I suspect that I'm better off going for small, meaningful, and frequent, until I can piece them together into something bigger. *stares longingly at her side pieces*

Yeah, I, like Gerard, am the kind of person who can wring meaning from a stone, so I usually end up with these complex, elaborate symbolisms for everything I do. It's a little absurd. The Black Parade is totally the kind of thing I would come up with and take super seriously, no joke.

That's cool, though! I think probably the most important thing to do with your tattoos is make sure they fit who you are, and it sounds like you're doing that. I want to get inked so badly, it's killing me to wait until I can get those damn moles removed from my back and

They're four-winged angels, as seen on one of the first Aiden merch shirts (http://merchrobot.com/images/content/ANGEL_ZM.jpg) I ever bought. It was really weird, because I was trying, at the time, to figure out what Aiden tattoo I wanted, because they're a band that have been pivotal in the last year of my life, and I was working Warped tour for Victory when Troy (their merch guy) offered to give me a shirt for 10 bucks instead of the 15 they were charging. I didn't have any money, and I promised him that if I did, I would buy a shirt.

And the next day, after driving all night and getting about 45 minutes of sleep on a couch, as we were walking into the venue with our Sponsor passes around our necks, I glanced down and saw something green. It was two 5-dollar bills, and I used them to buy my Angel t-shirt. The design on the small size fits exactly perfect on my sides, and as soon as I have the money to do it, they're going to be my first multi-session tattoo.

Down the belt piece on the right one is going to be 'hey, call the angels, this razorblade was meant for me' and down the left one will be 'can you design living through hell and back again', because they're the Aiden lyrics from my favourite of their songs that mean the most to me.

And they're multi-purpose, for me, because in addition to being Aiden tattoos, they're also Angels, which I have a good secular humanists' obsession with in general, and they're also beautiful. Which I do kind of intend for my ink to be.

That's such an awesome story! I love that. My first tattoo is going to be the White Tree of Gondor from the LotR books, which, uhm. I'm a NERD.

That's awesome. It just is. I admit also that the placement of my side pieces has everything to do with keeping my back open, because I'm holding out hope for being able to figure out one united design for my back. It won't happen, but, you know. Hope. Springing. Ever eternal. Something like that.

When I was 14 I wanted the ring script done curved around my boobs. True story. (Now not so much, because, uh... That would clash with the 4 other sets of ink that I want on my upper torso. Whoops!)

Ahaha PERHAPS. And, hey, a lot of Frank's mean things! They may not be all "LotR, Linguistics and that other thing" like the one you want, but they are important! (Gerard would have the prettiest tattoos, but I kind of love that his skin is all untouched)

I love the tattoo. I love how the keys are embedded in his skin and seem to be just bursting out, and I love that he got it, and I love that what he chose to get were in fact paino keys. I do want to hug him forever, and if he ended up getting a bunch of tattoos, even one of a Jenga tower, I would love him forever and probably send him a gift certificate for it, yes. He is a tiny music-loving monkey child, and I hope he never changes.
