Hey, you know what? Let's talk about Greta Salpeter.

In my own personal opinion, Greta is one of the smartest, wittiest, nicest, most talented people in all of bandom. She is AMAZING, you guys. She's one of the two primary songwriters for the Hush Sound, an adorable indie folk-pop band from Chicago. I love her with no irony whatsoever.



If you're looking for reasons to love Greta, let's start with her beautiful voice! The whole band shares vocals, but I personally like the ones where she sings lead best of all. These also tend to be the ones she wrote, for added fangirling potential.

She's also seriously fucking musically talented. Besides writing songs and lyrics and singing like an angel, she's a classically trained pianist, and she recently learned to play the drums so that she could get better at piano. She's a hot girl drummer. Excuse me while I die. She also plays the guitar, and I've seen her play the bass with my own two eyes. She and Patrick and Brendon could form a twelve-piece band between the three of them.



She's ridiculously smart, too. She is quite possibly the only person in bandom whom you can rely on to spell everything correctly, capitalize, and use correct grammar. She writes lovely lyrics (with lots of color words, my personal favorite thing in lyrics), and she's a complete literature dork. She recommends books to her fans! What a lamer, I love it, seriously. She likes Eliot and Capote and The World According to Garp and Lolita and Sylvia Plath.

Greta: I was into magic for a long time. Not the cards though, like actual magic. I was a magician.

She's also a legitimately nice person. When fans ask her if they can bring her their stories or their friend's album or their music, she goes out of her way to say yes, and thanks them so sincerely for gifts they give her, and basically is a miracle on the level of Gerard Way. She adores her fans and respects them, which is my bullet-proof kink, frankly. She knows sign language! She knits! She's NINETEEN, what the fuck. I am not one tenth that accomplished.



Oh, so this chick seems really cool, right? But how do I write her into my fanfiction!

Babies, do I ever have some canon connections for you. First of all, they're from Chicago, so, you know, enough said right there. But also, Chris and Darren were tiny FOB fanboys. WHAT. MAGNIFICENT. And then Ryan Ross heard their music on PureVolume and emailed Pete, who liked what he heard and signed them to Decaydance, via, according to Greta, a badly-spelled email. Patrick Stump produced their second record. (Greta&Patrick musical genius shenanigans now, please!) Meanwhile, they went out on tour with Panic! and the Dresden Dolls, also known as The Great Tour of Why Don't More People Write Me Porn About Our Amazing Canon God Damn It. Katie Kay gave Greta belly-dancing lessons while Amanda Palmer, like, existed. PORN. PORN NOW.

Do you guys have a pretty good relationship with Pete?
Darren: Oh yeah.
Bob: Awesome guy, the whole band.
Greta: The guys make out with him all the time.
Bob: Fall Out Boy is one of the sweetest bands we have met so far; they are all just awesome people.
Greta: After we met them, I realized we were going to be able to meet really smart, really down to earth people on the road.

She's just really smart and articulate and wonderful and witty and goofy. Please go watch videos of her and her dorky band! I feel it will encourage you to write me stories in which she is awesome.
