Yesterday, I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] deliberatehips in the comments of the meta post I made, and I said something about how there are so many fabulous bandom writers who aren't in DYW, and she said, "Really? I rely on recs!" And I asked if she wanted some recs from me, and she said sure, and I started writing a comment, and then I broke the comment limit. /o\ Also, I thought other people might be interested. So: post!

What I'm going to do here is rec authors who aren't members of [livejournal.com profile] damnyouwentz, but who ARE writing great bandslash fic. There are a ton of fantastic authors over that way, and I love their fic to death - but most people already know about it. So hey, let's talk about some of the people who aren't in the comm! This probably won't be helpful to anyone who moves in the same fannish circles I do, but what the hell. All FOB (with some crossovers), because if I started doing MCR, we'd be here all night, srsly, and I'm just pointing to a few stories from each person - but consider this a rec for all their fic, because these are amazing writers, and you should read it all, okay? Okay.

[livejournal.com profile] calathea wrote I Wrote This Story... (Patrick Stump/Jon Walker) and When Drummers Harmonize, or, How Bob Got Patrick Laid (Patrick/Bob Bryar).

[livejournal.com profile] valerie_z wrote Interesting (Pete/Patrick) and Sleep Like Music (Pete/Patrick).

[livejournal.com profile] dsudis wrote Sing Ourselves to Sleep (Gerard/Patrick).

[livejournal.com profile] misspamela wrote Semi-Decent Proposals and repair anything sold, bought, or processed, weddingfic and hookerfic respectively, both Pete/Patrick.

[livejournal.com profile] bexless wrote untitled Bob/Patrick.

[livejournal.com profile] giddygeek wrote I can't read lips (unless they're touching mine) (Pete/Patrick), and We're the places that we wanted to go (Pete/Patrick).

[livejournal.com profile] bayleaf wrote Public Relations(hips) (Pete/Patrick).

[livejournal.com profile] lordessrenegade wrote bodyswap: wake up and notice you're someone you're not (Pete/Patrick, MCR crossover), and Joe Troh fic: asskicking is just one of the services we offer (incidental Patrick/Gerard), and favorites and photos (Pete/Patrick, implied Patrick/VickyT).

[livejournal.com profile] normalhumanbein wrote a dystopian future AU: Stereo Field (Pete/Patrick).

[livejournal.com profile] missmollyetc wrote You're a Good Man, Andy Hurley, Andy-centric FOB GSF.

[livejournal.com profile] wax_jism wrote a teenage AU, Everyday Mysteries in the Summertime (Mikey/Pete).

A lot of these people also write absurdly great MCR fic, which falls outside the purview of this post, but which I can't NOT mention. Just. If you're into MCR, read it all, okay? Especially if it's by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis and [livejournal.com profile] bexless, both of whom have written some of my favorite MCR fic of all time. Trust me on this one.

And last, a few Panic recs, just because.

[livejournal.com profile] airinshaw wrote Out (Jon/Spencer) and Spencer is a Girl (Jon/Spencer).

[livejournal.com profile] untappedbeauty wrote Like A Magic 8 Ball, But You Can Only Ask One Question (Brendon/Ryan, Spencer/Jon).

[livejournal.com profile] disarm_d wrote Nothing to Do with You (Brendon/Ryan), Economies of Scale (Brendon/Spencer), and Just Close Enough to Touch (Brendon/Spencer).

Oh, and on the subject of recs, I have to say that [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie has been posting bandom rec sets for a while now, and if you've never been in a fandom with her before, take my advice and investigate the depths of her awesome. [livejournal.com profile] quettaser recs some more reccers over here. But the absolute best resource for me personally to find new fic in this fandom has been del.icio.us, which allows me to browse tags for pairing or fandom or genre, see what my friends are reading through the network feature, and see what lots of people seem to be enjoying, through the feature that lets you know how many people have saved a certain link. Check it out, if you haven't! It's pretty fabulous!

As someone who has spent years lurking and only now and then pops her head out of the sand (like, say, right now), it's a shame to see drama happening in what I think is an amazing & cool community. It's rare that you find such funny, thoughtful, and talented people on BOTH sides of a fandom, so I hope everything calms down soon.

That being said, it's like freaking Christmas around here with all the recs that I'm finding! Here's my mini-contribution that I haven't seen in too many places:

The Great War, or How Brendon Urie is a Giant Pain in the Ass & Ruins Everything (http://imogenedisease.livejournal.com/41131.html) by [livejournal.com profile] imogenedisease. Funny! Oh so very very funny! MCR/FOB/P!ATD, basically the neopolitan ice cream of fic.

Oh, well, with a few exceptions, I actually think most people are being fairly chill about this! No one is OMG MAD, as far as I can tell. Maybe there's some massive drama going down somewhere I can't see, but by and large, this has been a reasonably civil kerfluffle! Way to go, bandom!

Ahahaha, I don't know why we don't do this more awesome, seriously. YAY RECS.

Ooooh, I'll have to check it out – I hadn't seen that one yet! :D Thanks for the tip!!

Hey, that story does too have a title! Just I only put it in the cut-tag, because I didn't feel like doing headers, because RPS means I can be LAZY. *grins* I was calling it 'We're the places that we wanted to go.' which is long, for a ficlet, but whatever, it's bandom.

Also, thanks! *G*

Ahahaha, you lazy h0r. ♥ Fixed! "Whatever, it's bandom" – that's, like, the corollary of Tracey's "At least it's not bandom!" catchphrase, isn't it. :DD

Oh good! I always assume everyone's read everything I've read, and so I don't rec it, which is ridiculous. So yes, yay recs!! :D

Oh yay! It's seriously such an awesome feeling to be able to point someone towards a fic you love that they haven't read! :D

Thank you so much for this, I'm very excited to sit down and read these! I a big thing worth clearing up in this whole wank is that us DYW mods are not deliberately ignoring tons of great writers just cause. I'm willing to admit my limitations as a reader and that my tastes fall with Panic more than the other bands, so I need people like you to point great FOB fic out to me. Cause I'd much rather read a good FOB fic than any bad Panic one, obviously!

It's funny, too, cause all the wank just makes me think about how this wasn't an issue a year ago, and how everything we wanted to do with DYW really has come to fruition in terms of having a thriving fandom, so it's actually oddly heartwarming to have enough people in this fandom to have disagreement!

Oh, yay! And oh man, dude, I completely understand – it's insane to expect anyone to read everything that's ever written in a fandom, especially when it's not particularly to your taste. If I had to read stuff in certain pairings, I would pretty much cry, and there are other pairings I only ever read when they're recced to me. And it's also insane to expect people to just MAGICALLY know about great fic floating around out there, which is why I need to get off my lazy ass and rec stuff! Seriously, I'm so glad you said something about that, because the second you did it was like, "OH GOD, DUH." *facepalm*

Aww, that's so sweet, what an awesome way to look at things. :D I absolutely think that without DYW, it would have been really, really difficult for bandslash as we know it to EVER have emerged from the swamp of feral fandom, so wow. WOW. Thank you for that.
