Oh hey guys, what's up? What's new? Not much is new with me except for how [livejournal.com profile] longtime_lurker wrote the mpreg fic OF MY SOUL. OH MY GOD. OHHHHH MY GOD. ASDFJALSDIFNAQW READ IT.
babybabybabybabybaby

In other news, I think I'm going to be going up to the Cobra show in Massachusetts! If anyone has or knows of a way I can also get tickets to the early show in Cambridge or the one in Connecticut, that would be amaaazing. (I know the site says they aren't sold out in Cambridge; the site LIES.)

  1. It continues to enrage and distress me that I won't be able to watch Patrick Stump in his small-screen debut. Whyyyy did I buy those tickets for January 2nd? WHY?

  2. So this makes me feel really guilty in that I am POSITIVE thousands of amazing fics have been posted in the last three days and I haven't read them, but I did read this: Patricksitting (Call It A Love Song) which is good. )

  3. I got iPod speakers for Christmas! Hooray! Also, two nearly-identical pairs of red fuzzy pants, because my mother and my sister-in-law aren't very good at coordinating their gift-giving.

  4. I also got Christmas cards from [livejournal.com profile] sparktastic and [livejournal.com profile] mrsronweasley and oh shit, definitely other people, but I don't know where I put them. CRAP. I suck at life. If you sent me a Christmas card, I love you a LOT, even if I, uh. Can't name you at this precise moment.

  5. I can has a [livejournal.com profile] quettaser tomorrow and Saturday and a [livejournal.com profile] helleboredoll next week and a [livejournal.com profile] greyandgrey sometime soon and Cobras in January and Marty Dressler in LESS THAN A WEEK.

  6. I got the Jens Lekman album for Christmas, too, and I don't know how I feel about it quite yet, but here it is, if you're interested! This is the one Ryland has been reccing from here to kingdom come, so hey, worth a listen.

  7. Another thing that's worth a listen: Baby, It's Cold Outside, performed by Greta Salpeter and Thomas Dutton. WHAT HAS HAPPENED HERE!? )

  8. Less than a week before this unprintable year is over. Oh my Jesus, I don't think I can convey in mere words how ready I am.

  1. You know, cockslut Ryan Ross, whatevs. It's been done really, really well, and also really poorly. But what I personally think the world needs more of is cockslut everyone ELSE. I totally support cocksluts! That is a trope I enjoy greatly! I would like to hear about Brendon Urie gagging for it, please. I would like the fic where everyone gangbangs Jon Walker. Spencer Smith, desperate for dick? Sign me UP.

  2. Your daily dose of This Fandom's Fic Is So Awesome I Could Die:

Unwanted Afflictions by [livejournal.com profile] madsciencechick for the [livejournal.com profile] bandslashmania pornathon. This features some of the gayest het sex I have ever, ever read. Also, it's hot like FIRE. Spencer/VickyT/Bill Beckett, genderfucked, ridiculously porntastically amazing. Way to set a standard for this challenge, lady!

Starring You Instead of Me by [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee. Bob and Pete bodyswap (!!!), Frank/Bob with some hints at Pete/Patrick. I don't want to spoil you, but there was this moment in the story where I was thinking "I REALLY HOPE THAT ____" and then it was TRUE. YESSSSSS. This fic kept making me want things and then giving them to me! A+++

Tired Boys and Wired Eyes by [livejournal.com profile] imperfectcircle, Travis/Bill. Now, this isn't a pairing that I normally see as that adorable or OTP, and that makes me less inclined to get into it – mostly they just get written as buddies who fuck, and while that is in many ways totally great, it's not really my favorite type of story. But this fic WRAPS YOU UP in adorable and doesn't let you GO, and at the same time, it's completely believable as the dynamic between those two guys. I love it. I love it!! ELEPHANTS!!!!

  3. While I'm sure everyone who cares has already seen this, I couldn't NOT comment on the fact that this video and this podcast are the best things to ever happen in life EVER. They aren't even particularly SLASHY, they're just made out of pure fucking joy. If you are into Panic!, these will reduce you into a weak overwhelmed puddle. If you aren't into Panic!, and these don't change your mind at least a little bit, I... I don't know what to say. You're a stronger woman than I am!

And now I'm going to go pack some more kitchen supplies. Oh, moving, why so difficult?

OH MY GOD. I always forget how dependent on LJ I am, until it goes down and I go mental. I kept going oh, I don't need to check my flist, I'll just read some fic! BUT I COULDN'T BECAUSE IT WAS ALL ON LJ. DD: I ended up having a Buffy Renaissance, and reading a whole lot of Spike/Xander, because it was the only fandom I could think of that was old enough to have websites. In the process, I had the magnificently unexpected revelation that Loserville, which is a fic I remember loving and saving to my computer in like... 2003? 2004? when I was, ahahaha, so very underage? was actually written by [livejournal.com profile] shrift!!! WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? I went to the Honda Civic Tour with you, [livejournal.com profile] shrift, and I never even knew that you wrote one of my personal favorite fics from all of sophomore year of high school! Oh, fandom. ♥

Anyway, here's the post I typed up during my break today at work and then couldn't post because of the outage:

Sigh, I really wish someone would write some good fic! This fandom sure suffers for lack of awesome fic, lately.

HAHAHAHAHA JUST KIDDING OMFG. THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH GOOD STUFF IN THE PAST FEW DAYS, YOU GUYS!!! SO MUCH! )

Wow, I bet I'm forgetting a ton of other awes fic, too. What am I forgetting? Rec me stuff, everybody!

Yesterday, I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] deliberatehips in the comments of the meta post I made, and I said something about how there are so many fabulous bandom writers who aren't in DYW, and she said, "Really? I rely on recs!" And I asked if she wanted some recs from me, and she said sure, and I started writing a comment, and then I broke the comment limit. /o\ Also, I thought other people might be interested. So: post!

What I'm going to do here is rec authors who aren't members of [livejournal.com profile] damnyouwentz, but who ARE writing great bandslash fic. There are a ton of fantastic authors over that way, and I love their fic to death - but most people already know about it. So hey, let's talk about some of the people who aren't in the comm! This probably won't be helpful to anyone who moves in the same fannish circles I do, but what the hell. All FOB (with some crossovers), because if I started doing MCR, we'd be here all night, srsly, and I'm just pointing to a few stories from each person - but consider this a rec for all their fic, because these are amazing writers, and you should read it all, okay? Okay.

recs! )

Oh, and on the subject of recs, I have to say that [livejournal.com profile] makesmewannadie has been posting bandom rec sets for a while now, and if you've never been in a fandom with her before, take my advice and investigate the depths of her awesome. [livejournal.com profile] quettaser recs some more reccers over here. But the absolute best resource for me personally to find new fic in this fandom has been del.icio.us, which allows me to browse tags for pairing or fandom or genre, see what my friends are reading through the network feature, and see what lots of people seem to be enjoying, through the feature that lets you know how many people have saved a certain link. Check it out, if you haven't! It's pretty fabulous!

In the most recent update at Fandom Wank, the OP says:
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the Pötterdämmerung is sending wanks ahead of it, paving the way for its coming. And then it will descend upon a fandom ripe with paranoia and ready to go up at the smallest spark.

And hahahahahaha, oh God, it's kind of true. *cries* Last week, my roommate asked if I was going to go watch the House season finale, and I just GROANED, because – hiatus is only just beginning, y'all! School is letting out! The last HP book is being released! And that's coming after FanLib, the Mary Jane maquette, and Strikethrough '07. This is going to be an interesting summer to be a (LJ-based, slash, media) fangirl, I have a feeling. In the "interesting times" sense of the word.

Remember a while back when I said I wrote a long-ass meta post and LJ ate it? Well, I'm not going to retype it, because a) I'm lazy, and b) I have a feeling it might have been slightly inflammatory, and I'm not really interested in that nonsense. Everything I write lately comes out clumsy, which is probably a result of finals. But here's the link I would have ended it with: [livejournal.com profile] metabib. Because Due South is an old fandom – in terms of age of fandom, age of participants, and participants' level of fannish experience – and because bandslash isn't, and because that adjustment has been a little weird for me. It seems to be a lot of people's first fandoms, actually, or at least their first outside of HP, which is not a very rooted community. And hey, I believe in knowing your history.

Also, GIP. I love [livejournal.com profile] gandolforf's icons THISMUCH.

Uhhhhm what else is new. Let's see. My absolute favorite thing in this world is really well-written fic with a wretched, clichéd premise, but THAT'S not news. See: Take Center Stage And Step Up to Save The Last Dance (He Was A Sk8er Boi). GOD, YES. I want all the fic in the WORLD that is based on awful teen movies and romance novels! I could read well-executed clichéfic for the rest of my life, exclusively, and I'm not even ashamed.

OH HMMM MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING ELSE I'M EXCITED ABOUT, BUT IDK WHAT IT IS. HUH. SOMETHING - THAT IS HAPPENING IN LESS THAN A WEEK? SOMETHING INVOLVING INTERNET FRIENDS AND EMO BOYS AND SHENANIGANS? IT IS ON THE TIP OF MY TONGUE HONESTLY, PERHAPS I WILL REMEMBER LATER.

Oh my GOD, I am never no, wait, I am complaining about bandslash fandom EVERY DAY if it gets me results like these. DUDES. First [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee wrote the Travis/Beckett unreliable narrator romance of my HEART, and then [livejournal.com profile] schuyler and [livejournal.com profile] clumsygyrl wrote Patrick/mystery person penpal romance of discovery and joy and emotions. alkfjalsdfjkl;askdfj and then [livejournal.com profile] mistful posted the next chapter of Drop Dead Gorgeous, just in case I didn't have ENOUGH wonderful fic to read. YAY. And it is a lovely sunny beautiful afternoon, and my curtains are billowing in the breeze, and I have eaten my weight in French toast sticks and hash browns and eggs and toast. Not even the fact that I just got syrup all over my bedsheets is getting me down right now.

hey, a silly little F/K fragment, where the hell did that come from? )

ETA: and [livejournal.com profile] calathea wrote JWalk/Patrick. YES!

ETA2: God, hey, and this is amazingly good, too. What the hell, is there something in the water today? Is it the sun?

1) You know what I love? Going back once I'm well involved in a fandom, and rereading the fic that I read when I barely knew what the characters' names were. Best ever.

2) YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I LOVE? That I just signed my very first lease! YES! I will be living in an apartment, an adorable, awesome apartment with light and windows and counter space, starting in September. Three bedrooms, for me and two roommates. I am so thrilled. And it's only a few blocks from [livejournal.com profile] etben's place, so that's totally a plus!

3) Bandslash fandom keeps on filling needs I didn't know I had, y'all. I thought I needed hooker!Pete, but I was wrong: what I needed was INTERPLANETARY HOOKER PATRICK. Yes.

4) It is actually possible that all you need, all you really need to get me head-over-heels in love with a fandom, is a Harlequin Romance Challenge. It worked for SGA, and by God, it is SO working for bandslash.

5) Here's some things I think every fandom needs! Oh, hey, let's do a poll, actually. )

Ahahaha, aaaand class is over. \o/

1. God, Patrick. WHY. WHY SO CUTE. Downloading his OWN RECORD. Also in that clip: Pete trying to prove that fake cherry pie isn't vegan, using Wikipedia, and failing. Fantastic! And, seriously, just - this is their rockstar lifestyle, you guys. Sitting around with their laptops trying to pwn each other with Wikipedia.

2. Also, this fic, where Jon is a barista. Brendon is Spencer's roommate and sings Disney songs. adlfkjaalsdfjl BOYS. I JUST. BOYS.

Uhm. Seriously, those of you who are not into bandslash, I will understand if you feel the need to defriend me, because this is, like, my fourth post about emo boys in love in about three days, and also I still only have one bandslash icon, which must get kind of boring. I will cry! But I will understand. I STILL LOVE RAY AND FRASER, Y'ALL. It's just that these boys are making me stupid in my head. I am sure it will pass.

Ahahahhaa, okay, maybe I should just use my boobs icon instead, to distract you. YES. THIS IS A PLAN.

ETA omg. Why do they DO this to me? I just went and found Panic!'s iTunes celebrity playlist, and okay, JWalk is picking all these random bands I've never heard of, because he's all indie and shit, and then he goes, oh, Brendon made me put this track on because it's his favorite band, I basically have nothing to say about it. The song? Is Open Arms, by fucking JOURNEY. ♥ ♥ ♥

Everyone at my school has lost their voice all of a sudden! Seriously, three or four people I interacted with this morning could barely talk. What is the deal with that? Was there some kind of screaming-themed party to which I was not invited, and no one wants to mention it because they're worried I'll feel bad? I won't feel bad, you guys.

In other news, today I encountered the BEST PARAGRAPH EVER:

"Coming from Mr. Bed Bath and Beyond, I'm not sure if that's insulting, or just ridiculous."

John sniffs, "So I have a few candles."

"Also the big sign around your neck that says, 'GOD I AM SUCH A HOMO AND I LIKE IT.' You always forget to mention the sign. Sir."

(from this story by [livejournal.com profile] princess_bunny)

(You guys all know about the thing with the curtains, right? John's sparkly gauzy curtains of prettiness with the matching gather? FROM CANON? Oh, John Sheppard, you are the gayest gay boy in all of Gaydonia.)

I wish I was better at coming up with ideas for fic, or better at actually finishing said fic. I don't ask for both! Just one or the other! Once in a blue moon I FINALLY come up with an idea, like "Benton Fraser = 19th century Egyptologist, Ray Kowalski = kind of flirting with some Egyptian guy, and oh, Fraser's FACE, but he's not jealous! He's not! It was just unexpected. And maybe there's some evil grave robbers or something, I don't know, and they dig in the sun all day and get really sweaty but Fraser never takes off his pith helmet and his hair gets all damp and sticks to his forehead." But then I never fucking write it, you know? Laaaaaaame.
